New USA Compilation CD

A couple of days ago, a brand new compilation CD was released in the USA. The title is "Phantom Of The Night - The Very Best Of Kayak". The label is Renaissance Records (which probably means that Kayak knows nothing about this release, and won't receive any royalties? The same thing happened with the previous Renaissance compilation CD)

The CD has 19 songs:
Keep The Change, Phantom Of The Night, Starlight Dancer, Want You To Be Mine, Anne, Merlin, Chance For A Lifetime, Ruthless Queen, Periscope Life, Total Loss, Lyrics, Eyewitness, Seagull, See See the Sun, Do You Care, Irene, Still My Heart Cries For You, Wintertime, We Are Not Amused

  • No royalties? No involvement? Wait, there's no way that this is legal. If they released an album called "The Best Of Kayak" and chose "Suicide Rabbit" as the first track, maybe they could sue them for slander... Actually, they could still label it as "The Best Of This Record Store" and it would fly just fine.

By the way, I read the title as "Kayak - The Very Best of Phantom of the Night", which is pretty misguided (and completely untrue if you ask me since they left out Daphne). Still, this is a really good collection! Anything where Starlight Dancer meets Merlin and is followed by See See the Sun is pure gold in my book!

I wonder if all the versions are the originals? There are like four versions of Irene floating around, and at least two Merlins. Plus, Eyewitness is a track, so that just puts the whole thing in deeper confusion... Hmm... Wait, why do I care? I already have all the albums! ^_^
